₹The Plain RupeeEvery RBI press release, explained in plain words.

About The Plain Rupee

The Reserve Bank of India publishes several press releases every working day. Most are written for bankers and bond traders. We rewrite each one for everyone else.

What you get for each release

What happened: the announcement in everyday words, with the numbers that matter.

What it means for you: the effect on savers, borrowers, depositors and families. If there is no real effect, we say so.

What it means for businesses: shops, MSMEs, exporters, lenders and companies.

Links explained: every document the release links to, with a sentence on what it is and why you might open it.

The original: a link to the official release and PDF on rbi.org.in.

How it is made

New releases are picked up from the RBI's public press release feed several times a day and explained using the official text and its linked documents. Explainers are written with AI assistance under a published editorial guide, and checked against the source. We aim for accuracy over speed; if something is wrong, the official release takes precedence.

Routine operations (daily cash auctions, government bond auctions, weekly statistics) get short explainers and are marked “routine” so you can hide them.

Not affiliated with the RBI

The Plain Rupee is an independent publication. It is not the Reserve Bank of India and does not speak for it. Nothing here is financial advice.
