Second overnight VRRR on 29 Sep: RBI seeks ₹1 lakh crore more

A top-up auction: RBI will try to borrow up to ₹1,00,000 crore more overnight on 29 September, after the morning round.

Official title: RBI to conduct Second Overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction under LAF on September 29, 2026 · Press Release 2026-2027/1207

What happened

RBI will hold a second overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. It wants to borrow up to ₹1,00,000 crore from banks. Bids can be placed between 11:30 AM and 12:00 noon, and the money goes back to the banks on Wednesday, 30 September. The release says only that this follows a review of current and evolving liquidity conditions.

It follows the morning auction of the same day for ₹2,00,000 crore. A second round is RBI mopping up cash that banks may still have left over. It signals surplus cash in the system.
