Second overnight VRRR on 5 Oct, smaller at ₹50,000 crore

RBI will hold a second overnight VRRR on 5 October to borrow up to ₹50,000 crore, smaller than the ₹2 lakh crore morning round.

Official title: RBI to conduct Second Overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction under LAF on October 05, 2026 · Press Release 2026-2027/1244

What happened

RBI will hold a second overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction on Monday, 5 October 2026. It wants to borrow up to ₹50,000 crore from banks. Bids can be placed between 11:30 AM and 12:00 noon, and the money goes back to the banks on Tuesday, 6 October. The release says only that this follows a review of current and evolving liquidity conditions.

The later round is a fine-tuning step after the morning auction, to soak up any cash still left with banks.
