Money market on 4 Oct (Sunday): ₹2.03 lakh crore absorbed
No market trades on Sunday. RBI still took in a net ₹2,03,127 crore from banks at its deposit window.
Official title: Money Market Operations as on October 04, 2026 · Press Release 2026-2027/1247
What happened
This is RBI's daily money market report for 4 October 2026. No money market trades were reported: call money, repo and every other segment show zero. The only RBI activity was at its overnight windows: banks parked ₹2,03,605 crore for one day at the deposit window (SDF) and ₹478 crore was borrowed at the emergency window (MSF).
Net, RBI absorbed ₹2,03,127 crore from the system that day. Counting all outstanding operations as well, the net absorption was ₹5,15,659 crore. A minus sign means RBI is taking in cash rather than lending it, so the system still had surplus cash. This is a Sunday, which is why the markets reported nothing.
What it means for you
No direct effect on your deposits, loans or EMIs. These numbers show how much spare cash banks have and what overnight money costs them.
What it means for businesses
Banks and treasuries use these rates to see how easy or expensive it is to borrow cash. For businesses and borrowers there is no direct change.
