What happened

This is the full result of the Government of India bond auction held on October 9, 2026. The government wanted ₹23,000 crore through the 7.06% GS 2041 and ₹13,000 crore through the 7.43% GS 2076, and it got both amounts.

Bids far exceeded the need: ₹64,288 crore for the 2041 bond and ₹27,815 crore for the 2076 bond. The cut-off yield, the highest rate RBI accepted, was 7.4898% for the 2041 bond, so the government will pay about 7.49% a year to borrow until 2041. For the 2076 bond it was 7.8015%, about 7.80% a year for a loan running to 2076.

Five small investors bid ₹84.6 crore for the 2041 bond and three bid ₹8.75 crore for the 2076 bond through the non-competitive route. All were accepted in full. Primary Dealers had promised to cover the full amount, but nothing fell on them, which means the market bought everything.

What it means for you

If you want to lend to the government, you can bid through RBI Retail Direct without naming a price, and you would get the average rate. Otherwise there is no direct effect on you.

What it means for businesses

Banks, insurers and pension funds are the big buyers. Yields on these bonds act as a benchmark, so they influence what companies pay to borrow over long periods.
